Twitter

It was difficult not to laugh at the tweet. Just can’t seem to get myself outta bed; Monday mornin blues killin me, it said. Then what motivated my dear bleary-eyed friend to take the effort of punching out that message on his cell phone, and posting it to all his ‘followers’ through Twitter? May be, I thought, it’s the security in knowing that there are people out there who know what you are up to, every breathing moment of your life. But the question here is not what’s dumb on Twitter, but what’s making people addicted to it. How have Indians been caught in the eye of this social networking storm, with Facebook and Orkut

leading the pack and now Twitter not so far behind? Can you actually benefit from this newbie or is it simply for twits?

Oprah Winfrey’s on it. Ashton Kutcher found a million people to follow him. CNN’s ‘Breaking News’ account comes in at second place. More so, it helped power Barack Obama into the Oval Office. In our own backyard, newspapers have been quick in adopting this new technology to tweet breaking news and headlines to its readers. While Twitter is reportedly in DNA’s umm… DNA, Hindustan Times has picked it up only last month.
Saawariya was the first Indian

Saawariya was the first Indian movie to be promoted via Twitter, while MTV sends out alerts to its followers. Check out links to Delhi Daredevils and magazines like Smart Photography and FHM too. Turns out, Twitter can be put
to some good use, apart from
killing time, asking people their opinions while mulling over what to order at the new Chinese joint or informing them what Eureka idea came up while on the pot. While the phenomenon is just catching on in India though it’s been around for a good couple of years now, we tell you how to twitter away to glory.
