Breaking the Waves is an online film magazine dedicated to in-depth reviews, essays, and director interviews, with a core focus on international film festivals. Fostering rigorous cinephilic discourse, the platform publishes continuous online content alongside quarterly zines and an annual print magazine celebrating contemporary world cinema.

The editor Shahran Morshed

Shahran Morshed is an independent filmmaker and film critic serving as the Editor-in-Chief of Breaking the Waves, an online film magazine focused on international festival coverage, quarterly zines, and annual print editions. His critical writing has appeared in the International Cinephile Society (ICS) and New Wave Film School, alongside coverage of major festivals like Cannes, Venice, Berlinale, and Rotterdam.

As a director, his works including Dhaka Diary (2023) and Anatomy of a Wave (2024) have screened at the Millennium Film Workshop, Tent Biennale, Hill Film Festival, and Athens' Pugnant Film Series. He is currently in pre-production for a documentary series, alongside developing new short films and his debut narrative feature.
